City of Lakes Loppet

By Carly Wright Jan 9, 2012

The City of Lakes Loppet poster was inspired by the uniqueness of the event itself—a traditional sport in a non-traditional setting. Cross country skiing in an urban environment.

As I was learning more about the history of cross-country skiing, I came across several images of knitting patterns for traditional Nordic ski wear. I was inspired by these patterns and their Nordic heritage and wanted to use them in a non-traditional way. The patterns were created digitally, which resulted in an 8-bit version of them. The combination of these pixelated patterns and iconic imagery from Hennepin Avenue (this year's finish line location) the City of Lakes Loppet poster started to come together.

The final poster is a 4-color screen print that will be available for purchase at the Loppet event in February.
