2006 One Show China Student Workshop – Post #1
Nov 30, 2006
This is the sixth year I’ve been involved in the China workshops. Each year we invite advertising and design students from throughout China to create work from a defined brief. The top students, based on online judging of their work, are then invited to participate in the workshops.
The first year we traveled to Xiamen in southern China, each of the subsequent sessions has been either in Beijing or Shanghai. This year we’ll conduct the workshops in both Beijing and Shanghai. Once again, we’ll have participants from 26 provinces as well as young professionals working in both Beijing and Shanghai.
The workshops will be held at the Tsinghua University in Beijing on December 1st and 2nd with the final judging and awards ceremony on Sunday December 3rd. Shanghai sessions will be on December 8th and 9th with their awards chosen and received on December 10th.
Each year the work has improved significantly and the final work selected from this year’s entries is no exception.
I’ve selected some of my favorite work from last year, as well as some scenes from the awards banquet at the 798 Arts District in Beijing and included them in this post. I’ve also included the poster, designed by my son, Joseph that announced last year’s winners and subsequent show at the One Club Gallery in New York. We’re planning on bringing the show to New York again early next year…details to come.
In my next post, I’ll share with you this year’s two briefs and give you a glimpse of some of the finalist entries…stay tuned.
I’m hoping to cover a lot of ground in both Beijing and Shanghai, covering what goes on at the workshops as well as my design discoveries in both cities. I’m really looking forward to it.
