D&P Designs New Brand Language For Nation's Largest Non-Profit Devoted to Social Change

Duffy & Partners has designed the new identities and brand language for Points of Light Institute and Hands On Network, the largest volunteer non-profit in the nation. The network that manages millions of volunteers and 50,000 community impact projects sought Duffy & Partner’s expertise for a design and brand strategy that will help maintain communication throughout the collection of affiliates under the Hands On Network name and keep people inspired to take actions that change the world. Points of Light Institute is the holding organization for a portfolio of branded business units.

“Duffy & Partners has answered our need to grow, giving us the movement to connect people, projects and ideas that create social change,” said Michelle Nunn, Hands On Network founder and CEO. “The new design gives our volunteers worldwide, relevant access to becoming leaders in building healthy communities.”

Duffy & Partners has had the privilege of conceptualized the work of a variety of nonprofits. For this project, we created the brand identities for both Hands On Network and its parent organization, Points of Light Institute. We designed usable brand architecture, allowing the organization’s wide range of affiliates to be aligned, more flexible and reach people at the local level. They now have access to a productive Web site design and online branding tool kits that provide volunteers with community recognition, monthly newsletters and dynamic media animation. This includes a video interview with Michelle Nunn. The visual art came directly from the source - actual volunteers were photographed to personalize their outreach and the organization’s message.

“We are proud to be a part of building Hands On Network’s growing reputation,” said Joe Duffy. “We were able to create an experience that captures the energy of the organization’s volunteers and new ways of viewing volunteerism in the 21st century. The identity exemplifies the hand print and the impact their work leaves on people’s lives. We believe in collaborating with our clients to strengthen the dynamic in their messaging.”

Hands On Network wanted to have a firm presence at this year’s National Conference on Volunteering and Service. Duffy & Partners created a 12-page visual collateral piece, t-shirts and buttons for the conference, as well as the design elements of the Hands On Network booth. The event is the world’s largest gathering of volunteer and service workers.
